Our next blog post features our ensemble member and lighting/sound co-designer, Madison Worthington! We asked her some questions about herself and her involvement in PlayOffs as an actor.
Which characters do you play in our ensemble?
Lorraine in Shaving Bees
Jessica in Shock Value
Lauren in Formerly Known As
The Wife in Arnolfini Portrait
Do any of these roles stand out to you as either particularly exciting or particularly
Lorraine in Shaving Bees is very fun to play because of how passionate and strong willed she is...about something that I know nothing about! I am not an entomologist and know next to nothing about bees, so I am enjoying doing some research. It’s a perfect example of one of the reasons acting can be so fun—when else do you get to try on a profession you never even dreamed of?
Have you been involved with PCSF before? How?
Yes, I was the lighting and sound designer for last year’s PlayOffs and am so glad to be back.
How do you prepare for a role? Is there anything special you do to get into the mindset of a character you're playing?
I love the challenge of playing multiple characters in one evening. It pushes me to make stronger character choices in order to differentiate between them. To do that I ask myself questions such as: how do each of these character move, speak, and present themselves? How do they relate to others? What is most important to them?
What other theatre projects do you have coming up?
I will be in Saturnalia: A Raunchy Circus Christmas in December (playing at Shelton Theater). I am currently Stage Managing The Unveiling at Phoenix Theater which runs through October 28th. Bread! The Musical, which I co-directed, is also currently playing at Shelton Theater until October 21st .
